DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES AS A VACCINE FOR THE ECONOMY

06.05.2020

The blow to communications capacity that the coronavirus pandemic has dealt to the economies of most countries in the world, putting the planet on pause, requires new solutions and new approaches both to the internal organization of all life-support systems of states and their international cooperation.

Alar Teras, the representative of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications of the Republic of Estonia, who will take part in the VII Baltic-Black Sea Economic Forum, said:

“We are to have a serious discussion during the forum to identify effective recipes for overcoming the pandemic impact on the world economy. We have a unique opportunity to do it together with representatives of the real sector of the economy of European and Asian countries at the Baltic-Black Sea Economic Forum, which will be held in Kherson. It will allow, as a minimum, to share opinions about the situation in a changing world, and, as a really expected result of the discussion, to identify a list of possible, priority joint actions on establishing an international belt of economic development and economic security from the Baltic shores to the Caspian Sea coast.

The active use of electronic services and digital technologies in various life spheres of Estonia has significantly softened the impact of the pandemic on the country's economy. The situation where Estonia and other EU countries are forced to live in quarantine has shown the importance of a "shared digital space". If we talk about cooperation with Asian countries, Estonian electronic technologies, for example, work effectively in Kyrgyzstan.

How can an effective economic space in Europe and Asia be formed considering existing experience and new developments? How, using new technologies in the new realities, can one ensure the work of joint ventures and the smooth movement of goods from the Baltic states to the countries of the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea? And these are not all questions, to which the answers should be searched during the forum."
