In preparation for the 600th anniversary of an event that can be considered the epitome of the EU summit.
Metropolitan Mykhailo of Lutsk and Volyn held a working meeting at his residence with Volodymyr Makukha, Chairman of the Board of the Baltic-Black Sea Economic Forum (Baltic-Black Sea-Caspian Forum).
In two and a half years, the city of Lutsk plans to solemnly celebrate the 600th anniversary of the congress of monarchs, which this Ukrainian city hosted in January 1429.
At the request of Metropolitan Mykhailo of Lutsk and Volyn, who is the initiator of the January 2029 celebration of this historic event for European countries, the international team of the Baltic-Black Sea Economic Forum (Baltic-Black Sea-Caspian Forum) is joining to facilitate the event. They will participate in the preparation, coordination, and execution of the event itself.
The congress of monarchs in January 1429, in modern retrospect, is comparable to a European Union summit.
Just as in EU countries today, almost 600 years ago in Lutsk, European rulers discussed European security, interstate relations, and economic and territorial issues.
During the congress, Lutsk became the gathering place for Europe's highest political elite.
In modern European countries, this event is considered historically significant, and for many, events that occurred for the first time in their history are associated with it.
In January 1429, Grand Duke Vytautas of Lithuania, for whom Lutsk was one of his main residences, hosted the distinguished guests. Among the key figures at the congress were King Jagiello of Poland, King of Hungary, Germany, and Bohemia, and the Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund of Luxembourg, King of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden Eric VII of Pomerania, Papal Legate Andrew Chrysoberges, Ambassadors of the Teutonic and Livonian Orders, Ambassadors of the Byzantine Empire, representatives of the Principality of Moldavia, and others attended. In particular, this was the first international meeting in Moldova’s history in which it participated.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted Resolution No. 4429-IX of May 13, 2025, “On the Celebration of the 600th Anniversary of the Congress of Monarchs of European States in Lutsk”, which testifies to the international significance of this event.
Considering that, in addition to the organization of the congress in January 1429 in Lutsk by Grand Duke Vytautas of Lithuania, its next phase was planned and organized in Vilnius the following year, 1430, these events are of particular significance for the history of Lithuania.
In the territory of the Republic of Lithuania, assistance in coordinating organizational issues in preparation for the celebration of the 600th anniversary of those historical events will be provided by the leader of the Baltic-Black Sea Economic Forum (Baltic-Black Sea-Caspian Forum) in Lithuania, Member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Vytautas Grubliauskas.
